From Q2, 2003, Visa CEMEA will pilot a SMS-based prepaid mobile phone top-up service in the region, in partnership with a bank that is to act as both the acquirer and issuer, and an as-yet unnamed operator. In Visa's vision, a full roll-out of the service will enable participating Visa member banks and mobile carriers to offer a Visa-branded service for their customers to use credit or debit cards to top-up prepaid phones. The ASP solution from Upaid interacts with operators' and banks' systems to authenticate end-users with their MSISDN and PINs, and enable the transfer of authorisation and top-up requests within the service.
